Authorities are looking into a triple death after discovering the bodies of three people, including two young children, in Lake Michigan over the weekend in connection with a “apparent domestic dispute”.
The bodies belonged to a 31-year-old woman, a 6-year-old boy, and an infant girl, the Chicago Police Department confirmed to USA TODAY via email on Monday, September 15.
According to police, officers responded two days earlier, around 11:20 a.m. local time, after an unidentified female infant was pulled from the water. First responders pronounced the child dead.
This occurred in the city’s Jackson Park neighborhood, approximately 8 miles south of downtown.
Approximately three hours later, just after 2:20 p.m. local time, officials discovered the bodies of a 31-year-old woman and a 6-year-old boy.
Police did not elaborate on where the bodies were discovered, but the locations are less than a mile apart by water.
‘Apparent domestic dispute’
According to police, the three deaths appear to be connected and the result of a “apparent domestic dispute.” The department didn’t elaborate.
As of September 15, no one was in custody in connection with the case, and police said detectives were conducting a death investigation while waiting for the autopsy results.
Police said the Cook County Medical Examiner would identify the victims and determine their causes of death.
