Tragedy in Wyoming, Michigan: Machine Operator Dies After Fall at Kent County Metal Fabrication Shop

WYOMING, Mich. (WOOD) — A tragic workplace accident in Kent County has claimed the life of a 71-year-old machine operator at a metal fabrication shop.

The incident occurred at River City Metal Products, a facility serving the greater Wyoming, Michigan area. A company spokesperson confirmed the fatality, which took place on May 20 and is currently under investigation.

According to the Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA), the worker was cutting steel tubes when the tubing collapsed unexpectedly.

“After the banding was cut, the tubing collapsed and struck the victim’s legs, causing them to fall and hit their head,” MIOSHA reported.

The injured worker was rushed to a nearby hospital and placed on life support but tragically passed away on May 24 due to the severity of the injuries.

River City Metal Products says it is fully cooperating with the Kent County Sheriff’s Office and MIOSHA as the investigation continues.

This incident highlights the importance of workplace safety and the ongoing need for stringent protocols in industrial environments across Wyoming and the state of Michigan.
