Tragic Crash: On-Duty California Cop Hits Pedestrian, Highway Patrol Probes Responsibility

VISALIA, Calif. — A pedestrian was tragically killed late Wednesday night after being hit by a Visalia Police Department patrol vehicle, officials said. The incident has sparked a multi-agency investigation.

The crash happened around 9:10 p.m. near Houston Avenue and Rinaldi Street in northwest Visalia. A police officer, driving a marked patrol car, struck the pedestrian who was walking in the roadway at the time.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene and took the pedestrian to Kaweah Health Medical Center. Despite medical staff’s efforts to save the person’s life, they were pronounced dead at the hospital.

To ensure transparency, the California Highway Patrol has taken over the investigation at the request of the Visalia Police Department. Both agencies are working together to identify the victim and uncover what led to the collision.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to come forward and contact local authorities.
