Background
Our family operates three different businesses from our Loveland, Colorado training facility. We also own and operate our ranch in Kremmling, Colorado.
Our Philosophy
We run our broodmares, yearlings, and 2-year-olds in the summertime in the heart of the Rocky Mountains in Kremmling, Colorado at Shea’s family’s ranch, Troublesome Creek Ranch. Emilio mainly starts barrel and team roping horses and prospects, and has done this for 20+ years. He has started multiple futurity champions for some of the major breeders across the country. He learned from his father who is well known in the horse industry and is one of the best, Francisco Vega. Emilio’s quiet demeanor and soft hands are the key to his success. He believes the base to anything in life is having a strong foundation. Shea does not train for the public and only rides and trains her horses. She has been in the breeding and rodeo industry for over 30 years and has worked hard to have a very elite group of broodmares and two studs. Ragged Charm is our Senior Stud and is enrolled in Future Fortunes as well as Royal Crown. He is by PC Frenchmans Hayday and out of This Ragtime Cat. Our junior stud is Blazing Bruno and is enrolled in Royal Crown. He is by First Moonflash out of Rockets A Blazin.
Emilio’s wait list speaks to his training and he books about 13 months out and his business is mainly molded around repeat clients. He is very selective when it comes to taking on new clients. He has a minimum of 60 days on any horse that comes in.
Training Tools
Our go to tool is our COATS saddles and the plethora of bits made by Emilio and his dad. The saddles just fit everything and both Francisco and Emilio are outstanding at recognizing what a horse needs in its mouth to fit a rider’s hands. We opened our rehabilitation and conditioning business, Vega Equine, in the fall of 2018 and have thoroughly enjoyed it. Shea has a true passion for conditioning and nutrition and has traveled all over the US learning new techniques and stresses the conditioning side to every person she is in contact with. It is the number one missed thing in our industry especially with the youth. She tries to instill the importance of maintaining your horse the same way you do your tractors, trucks, and your own body. We have an underwater treadmill, Vita floor, solarium, 3-1 Infrared thermal system, respond blanket system and cold laser therapy.
