CASPER, Wyo. —  A stretch of Highway 14 west of Burgess Junction in the Bighorn Mountains was closed Tuesday due to a crash that left a semitrailer dangling over a cliff, according to the Big Horn County Sheriff’s Office.

“The driver thankfully had only minor injuries and was able to safely extricate from the semi,” the release stated.

Vehicle recovery operations necessitate the closure of U.S. 14A from the Five Springs Campground area 22 miles east of Lovell to the Big Horn and Sheridan county borders.

WYDOT anticipates a reopening time of 6-8 p.m., as of 9 a.m.

“Please avoid the area and allow towing and heavy haul operators to work safely. “As you can see from the photos, this will be a very difficult operation,” the sheriff’s office stated.

Travelers are advised to make travel plans and avoid driving past closed roadway barricades.
