A 69-year-old Florida man is accused of murdering his wife’s lover after an argument in a flea market parking lot ended in a fatal shooting.

Omar Rene Aguila is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting that occurred on July 12 at the Northside Shopping Center in Miami.

According to a probable cause arrest affidavit obtained by the Miami Herald, Aguila’s wife and the victim began an affair in 2019. Aguila learned about the romance in April 2024 and urged her to end it.

However, two days before the shooting, the victim reportedly showed up at Aguila and his wife’s home. There was a confrontation between the victim and the suspect.

On the day of the shooting, Aguila was at the flea market with his wife and son when the victim dropped off food for a friend, according to the affidavit. The victim attempted to speak with Aguila’s wife before leaving. According to the complaint, Aguila approached the victim’s car, where the two began arguing.

Within seconds, Aguila allegedly pulled out a gun and shot the man several times. Detectives allege that surveillance video captured the shooting.

Paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim’s name has not been made public.

Cops reportedly let Aguila go after the shooting because he claimed self-defense and stated that the victim had a gun in his car. But detectives allegedly determined that the victim was never armed.

Aguila is also a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing a firearm, according to police. He is charged with both murder and felon in possession of a firearm.

Aguila was arrested on Thursday. He is still in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without a bond. His next court date is set for Monday.
