Cindy DeLancey reports from the Rancho Rio Sale…

April 15, 2023 – Wickenburg, AZ

“Tax day” at Rancho Rio was the place for some good investments for horse enthusiasts from all over the country and online. Under the big white tent, some of the best riders and trainers in the horse industry brought their rope horses, barrel horses and ranch horses for the Rancho Rio 2023 Spring Classic Horse Sale. VIP guests and Wickenburg locals enjoyed the afternoon watching star after star enter the ring guessing where the bidding will stop.


Woody Be Smooth (Woody be Tough X Smooth N Light (CD Lights), Lot #35, a fancy 2016 sorrel gelding by Royal Crown, Riata Buckle & Ruby Buckle Stallion Woody be Tough owned by Fred Hunter of Neola, UT was the sale screamer dropping the hammer at a whopping $109,000.00. Other sale toppers were Rancho Rio sale favorite, Brooke Wilson of the Wilson Cattle Company of Canyon, TX. Rodney and Brooke had 2 exceptional geldings consigned in this sale. The first gelding, Sportin Rounder (Sportin High Brow X Abbie Sandino) known as “West Point” sold for an impressive $50,000.

This 2017 sorrel gelding is a half- brother to “South Point” who was the 2022 Rancho Rio high selling horse that sold to Shane O’Hotto for $200,000.00. The other gelding consigned by the Wilson Cattle Co. was Lot #32 Despite All My Rage (Meteles Cat X Fields of Diamonds) 2016 bay gelding head and ranch horse who sold for $40,000.00.
