A 33-year-old Wyola woman was recently sentenced in Sheridan’s Fourth Judicial District Court for crimes committed in the county this spring. Ron Richter from Sheridan Media has the details.
On April 5, 2025, Wahelah Castro led law enforcement on a high-speed chase down I-90, reaching speeds of more than 125 mph.
During the pursuit, Castro crossed the median and was traveling the wrong way, against traffic on the Interstate. Castro was not over the legal limit when she was arrested, but she did admit to drinking before the high-speed chase.
At a recent sentencing hearing, District Court Judge Darci Phillips accepted the terms of the plea agreement reached between the defendant and the State.
Castro was sentenced to 2 ½ to 4 years in prison for a felony eluding charge, suspended in favor of an eight-month split-sentence followed by three years of supervised probation and time served for a misdemeanor reckless driving charge.
Judge Phillips ordered Castro to pay $475 in court costs and assessments, $750 in public defender fees, and $10,884 in restitution for the damage she caused to law enforcement vehicles before being arrested.
