Wyoming Area Surges into District 2 4A Baseball Semifinals in Thrilling Playoff Run

Wyoming Area Shuts Out Honesdale to Advance in District 2 Playoffs

In a dominant pitching performance on Saturday, Alex Vacula and Jacob Snyder combined for a shutout as Wyoming Area defeated Honesdale 2–0 in the District 2 Class 4A baseball quarterfinals.

The Warriors (12–9), representing the state of Wyoming’s namesake region in Pennsylvania, now advance to the semifinals, where they’ll face Crestwood (12–9) at 1 p.m. Monday. The winner will play Mid Valley (18–4) for the championship at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the University of Scranton. Both finalists will earn a spot in the PIAA Class 4A state tournament.

Vacula was in control for much of the game, pitching 6.2 innings and escaping a key jam in the sixth with runners on second and third by forcing a popout to second baseman David Fath. After allowing back-to-back singles with two outs in the seventh, Snyder stepped in and sealed the win by striking out the final batter.

Wyoming Area’s offense managed just three hits but made them count—scoring one run in the third and another in the fourth. Ben Rogish led the way with a double and scored a run. Snyder and Robbie Yatsko each added a single, with Yatsko also crossing the plate.
