Crowbar Assault Under Investigation in Wilkes-Barre; Victim Hospitalized

WILKES-BARRE, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police in Wilkes-Barre are investigating a violent early-morning assault that left one man hospitalized after being attacked with a crowbar.

Authorities were called to the intersection of South River and Academy Streets around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday following reports of an assault. According to the police report, the victim said he was standing outside a business on the 300 block of South Main Street when he was approached by a man he recognized as “Old Man Charlie.” Without warning, the suspect allegedly began striking him with a crowbar.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries. His current condition has not been released.

Wilkes-Barre police continue to investigate the attack. This incident highlights the ongoing concerns surrounding violent crime in small urban areas—something that communities across the country, including those in Wyoming, are also grappling with.
