Wyoming Shooted and Killed UHS Graduate in 1991

A former Ulysses High School graduate was fatally shot in Wyoming.

Kevin Hefley, 52, graduated with the UHS class of 1991. He has also lived in Walsh, Colorado, where his father, Fred Hefley, a well-known farmer and rancher in the area, still lives.

The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a fatal shooting at approximately 4:22 p.m. on June 24 in the 1200 block of County Road 157 in their county, near Pine Bluffs, Wyoming.

When they arrived, officials said they discovered Hefley, who was pronounced dead on the scene.

Wyoming authorities say they’ve “identified a shooter” and he’s “not a threat” to the community. However, no arrests have been made in the shooting.

Although Wyoming authorities have yet to identify the “shooter,” Hefley’s friends claim the person who shot him was a “prominent banker and rancher” in the area.

According to Laramie County Sheriff Brian Kozak, they are investigating the incident, in which the alleged shooter claims self-defense, and hope to have a conclusion within a week or so.

Hefley was the pilot and owner of Airtime Aerial, a crop dusting company. He was known to spray not only in Wyoming, but also in Arizona, Texas, and several other states.

He grew up in Walsh, Springfield, Colorado, and Ulysses. He later attended Kansas State, where he competed on the rodeo team. Hefley was a bareback rider.

A Life Celebration for Hefley is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on August 2 at the Walsh Community Building in Walsh, Colorado.
