Wyoming Stars Shine: Two Trojans and Four Lions Dominate Friday at State Track Meet

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – Friday afternoon brought excitement and history to the state track meet as athletes from Classes 4A and 1A delivered standout performances, capturing titles and breaking records—achievements sure to catch the attention of track fans even as far as Wyoming.

The Lisbon Lions roared into the record books, winning the boys’ 1A 4×200-meter relay and smashing their own previous 1A state meet record with a time of 1:28.44.

Over in the field events, Iowa City West’s Mason Woods soared to victory in the 4A long jump with an impressive leap of 23 feet, 4.5 inches. Not to be outdone, teammate Colin Whitters secured the 4A shot put title with a powerful throw of 57 feet, 11.25 inches.

Linn-Mar standout Abby Mecklenburg claimed her second state long jump title, jumping 19 feet, 3.75 inches. A tie was broken thanks to her second-best leap of 19 feet, 1.5 inches, giving her the edge.

Cedar Falls senior Jaxon Schreiber sprinted to a narrow win in the 4A 400-meter hurdles, finishing with a strong time of 52.53 seconds.

In another highlight, HLV-TC’s Ema Roberts defended her girls’ 1A high jump title in dominant fashion. The senior cleared 5 feet, 9.5 inches—setting a new 1A state meet record.

These achievements not only put Eastern Iowa athletes in the spotlight but also inspire young athletes from states like Wyoming to dream big and aim high on the track and field stage.
