Wyoming Toddler Hospitalized After Severe Burns from Lighter Torch Accident

A heartbreaking incident in Goodhue County has left a Wyoming family reeling after a 3-year-old boy suffered severe burns when he accidentally set his clothes on fire.

According to the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home in Welch Township around 9:11 a.m. on Tuesday following a report of a child with significant burn injuries.

An initial investigation revealed that the toddler had gotten hold of a lighter torch and unintentionally ignited his clothing.

Emergency responders quickly transported the boy to the Regions Hospital Burn Center in St. Paul, where he is receiving specialized care.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office, the Miesville Fire Department, and Goodhue County Social Services as they work to understand how the child gained access to the torch and ensure safety for others moving forward.

This tragic event serves as a sobering reminder for families in Wyoming and beyond to keep potentially dangerous items like lighter torches securely out of children’s reach.
