Wyoming-Colorado State’s annual “Border War” football game has become one of college football’s most bitter rivalries. The series premiered in 1899 and has been played in three different centuries.

The ROTC detachments of the respective schools established the “Bronze Boot” in 1968, a traveling trophy awarded to the contest winner each year. Dan Romero, a CSU ROTC instructor, first wore the boot in Vietnam.

The “Bronze Boot” has become one of the most recognizable traveling trophies in college football. This year’s 2025 meeting will mark the 58th time the trophy has been fought over.

Wyoming and CSU have played every season for the past 80 years, beginning in 1946 and ending this season. Wyoming has won 79 consecutive meetings, dating back to the 1946 season, for a 46-33-0 record. Colorado State leads the overall series, 60-51-5.

CSU will join the new Pac-12 in July, so this rivalry game will be non-conference.
